The Poema del Mar aquarium, with a total surface area of 12,519 square meters and 7.5 million liters of salt and fresh water, is one of the most modern aquariums in the world, home to more than 350 species, some of which will be seen for the first time in an aquarium. It also has the largest curved glass in the world, a 140 tons methacrylate, 36 meters long and 7 meters high.
Visitors will begin the tour by immersing themselves in the first zone, the Jungle, which reproduces images of landscapes that cover the entire planet, paying homage to the 5 continents. The second part of Poema del Mar, Arrecife, is the walk around a huge cylinder with a volume of more than 400,000 liters of water, which exhibits a wide variety of colors, coral and fish. Finally, the route will end at the Deep Sea, in the deepest ocean, which will not leave you indifferent thanks to the largest curved exposure window in the world.
The Canarian species live in special area, one of them is known as El Veril, a kind of enveloping vault where visitors will be able to see closely more than 100 moray eels, green and old cocks, among other species. The facilities are designed to give visitors the impression that they can almost touch a very difficult ecosystem to observe. Among all the species there is a very special one: the pejeperro (Bodianus scrofa), the fish that becomes the landmark of the representative species of the Canary Islands in this area for biodiversity. Other species that can be seen will be the shark Angelote (Squatina squatina), a shark endangered mainly by trawling.
One of the objectives of the Poema del Mar aquarium is to become a centre of conservation, awareness and reference on marine life. As part of its commitment to the environment, the aquarium is committed to the use of renewable and non-polluting energy sources, to contribute to the development of a sustainable tourism in Gran Canaria and for this reason will have filtration, purification and desalination systems for the most modern water available.
Please note that this ticket is non-refundable. You will have 1 year from the date of purchase to enjoy the ticket. If you are not a resident of the Canary Islands, you must buy the standard ticket.
